The best portable power stations to give campers in 2026

A portable power station is a gift a camper will use on every trip: phones, lights, a fan, a camera, even a small fridge, all without a noisy gas generator. It also doubles as backup power at home during an outage.

Every pick here costs $600 or less. We rank them for camping, which favors portability and value first, then charging speed, solar input and capacity. Use our runtime calculator to check how long each one runs the devices your camper actually brings.

How to choose

Small or big?

A 250–300 Wh unit (under 10 lb) charges phones, lights and a laptop for a weekend. A 1 kWh unit (around 25 lb) runs a 12 V fridge, a CPAP or a small heater for much longer.

Solar input

Campers who stay off-grid for days will want a station that accepts a solar panel. A panel makes a great add-on gift.

Battery chemistry

LiFePO4 batteries last thousands of cycles, so the gift keeps working for years of trips.

Charging speed

Fast AC charging (about an hour) means a full battery before leaving, even if they forgot to charge it the night before.

Check the outlets

Make sure it has the plugs your camper needs: AC outlets, USB-C for laptops and a 12 V car port for fridges.

Frequently asked questions

What size power station is best for camping?

For phones, lights and a laptop, about 300 Wh is enough. For a 12 V fridge or a CPAP over several nights, choose around 1,000 Wh.

Can a portable power station run a CPAP while camping?

Yes. A CPAP without heated humidification draws roughly 30–60 W, so a 1 kWh station can run it for several nights. Check the exact runtime in our calculator.

Is a power station better than a gas generator for camping?

For most campers, yes: it is silent, has no fumes, can be used inside a tent or van and recharges from solar. Gas generators still win for very high, long-running loads.
